Program and Events Coordinator

Under general supervision, coordinates, plans, develops and implements special programs, events and activities for the City of Abbeville. Reports to the Economic Developer.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Coordinates, plans, develops and implements Downtown Abbeville activities, outdoor and indoor programs, community events including Spring Festival, Hogs and Hens, Christmas Parade, Live After 5, and City sponsored Opera House events. Assures activities are incompliance with all laws and regulations and City of Abbeville policies and goals.
  • Evaluates City of Abbeville programs for effectiveness and participation levels; researches new event and program opportunities, assists in the development of new program/events, and recommends program changes; tracks services provided, monitors results and generates operational and financial reports. 
  • Works closely with the Community Development Department to maintain and stay on-target with event accounting and administrative records, manage expenditures, track revenue and monitor budgets; prepares operational, statistical, and financial reports on City of Abbeville programs and special events.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Abbeville, venders, venues, sponsors, and performers, Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Merchants Association and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Performs a variety of receptionist duties such as greeting visitors, answering incoming calls, relaying messages to staff members, directing visitors/callers to appropriate personnel, and providing information and assistance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred, with experience in planning or organizing non-profit events; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license with a good driving record
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination

Billing Clerk

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for a Billing Clerk in the Public Utilities Office.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Clerical and bookkeeping activities in preparing, processing and maintaining utility accounts
  • Processing of other financial data and performs customer services functions
  • Posts,computes and processes customer account information maintaining associatedfiles, reports and correspondence

Qualifications:

  • Must be proficient with computer operations and have excellent customer service skills

Assistant to the Public Utilities Director

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for an Assistant to the Public Utilities Director. Under limited supervision this position provides assistance to the Public Utilities Director. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Public Utilities Director by keeping operations in compliance with all related policies; establishes and/or recommends sound operational policies, procedures and objectives for effective utilities operations.
  • Studiesand investigates industry developments for methods of improvement; attends courses,technical conferences and training meetings to keep abreast of industry changes and developments.
  • Under the supervision of the Public Utilities Director, plans, designs and implements new plans for the improvement of public utilities; prepares engineering designs and approval of city electrical projects and small water and sewer projects; supervises and directs consulting engineers on larger water and sewer projects; supervises and performs quality control on public utilities.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in electrical, civil, or industrial engineering or a business or public administration degree, with 1-3 years of management experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Valid SC Driver's License with a good driving record

Lineman

The City of Abbeville is seeking a Lineman in our Utility Department. This is a full time position responsible for performing skilled work involving the operation of heavy equipment for repairing and maintaining electrical lines. Performs general electrical services for other city departments and maintains rights of way.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operates a bucket truck and/or line truck in the installation/maintenance of electrical lines.
  • Operates equipment such as backhoe, tandem trucks, trenchers, chain saws, fork lifts, winches, mechanic tools, electrical tools, etc.
  • Cuts and clears trees and brush for maintenance of rights of way.
  • Reads meters and performs turn-on and turn-off as directed; responds to customer complaints; provides general information and assistance to customers as requested.
  • Reviews blueprints in locating electrical lines and electrical drawings for installation/maintenance of electrical lines.
  • Performs electrical services for various city departments/offices such as the Police Department, City Hall, etc.
  • Maintains required certifications and licenses.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner as well as conduct installation, repair and maintenance to electrical lines and apparatuses.
  • Ability to understand and apply detailed oral and written instructions and assignments and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, City employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to conduct duties in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or electrical drawings.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid SC driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Have or obtain a CDL within 6 months
  • 4-5 years of electrical experience or technical knowledge preferred
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination

Police Officer

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Valid SC Class D Driver’s License with a good driving record
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination
  • SC Class 1 LE certification preferred, but not required
  • Pay Range: $28,731 - $33,283 according to experience
